Embracing Femininity: How to Tap Into Your Wild Feminine

Fewer women rate themselves as highly feminine than men rate themselves as highly masculine. Embracing femininity requires breaking free from systems that meet the feminine with resistance, judgment, and obstacles. Below, I’ll discuss how you can tap into your wild feminine to find your authentic self for a more fulfilling life.

I’ve spent the last 15+ years working as a spiritual mentor, and I help guide the wild feminine and rooted masculine. I examine spirituality and healing for myself and through my work with others in an effort to be unapologetically raw and real.

What is femininity?

Femininity is a set of traits and practices stereotypically associated with women. However, there’s no specific framework for authentic feminine energy. When there are expectations around being feminine, like being kind and giving, you can’t embrace true femininity. 

The wild feminine doesn’t fit into a box and can be explored by men, women, and everyone. Femininity is like nature: unpredictable, wild, and sacred. Embracing true femininity allows you to stop living for approval so you can show up in ways that feel genuine while moving with purpose.

Common Traits of Femininity 

While it’s important to remember that authentic femininity has no rulebook, the following are common traits of femininity:

  • Empathy

  • Vulnerability

  • Kindness

  • Compassion

  • Nurturing

  • Emotional

  • Supportive

  • Gentle

Signs of Blocked Feminine Energy

Societal pressure, trauma, and stress can lead to a lack of feminine energy. 

Signs of blocked feminine energy include:

  • Chronic fatigue and burnout - Often feeling mentally and/or physically exhausted

  • Emotional suppression - Difficulty expressing or regulating emotions or feeling emotionally numb

  • Lack of intuition - Doubting or ignoring your gut feelings and struggling to make decisions 

  • Strained relationships - Not prioritizing relationships or struggling to communicate, be present and/or be vulnerable with others

  • Difficulty asking for or receiving help - Choosing to do most or all things independently even when you could use help

  • Creative block - Lacking inspiration or motivation to create

  • Feelings of insecurity - Setting unrealistic expectations for yourself and/or not feeling deserving of love and success

Tips for Embracing Feminine Energy

To become more feminine, you must ground yourself to discover who you truly are. Beyond that, it’s about being untamed to explore your authentic self and live the life that’s meant specifically for you.

Practical ways to discover your wild feminine include practicing self-care, being compassionate, and embracing vulnerability.

Practice self-care

Self-care is any practice that helps you care for your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Through self-care, you can learn who you truly are and feel your best. 

Any activity that feels good for you can be self-care, including going outdoors, spending time with loved ones, and getting adequate sleep. One of the best self-care practices to help you step into your feminine power is meditation, which allows you to slow down, focus on the present moment, and spend time with yourself.

Be compassionate

Be compassionate to yourself and others. Compassion includes being nurturing, empathetic, and kind. Not only can this help you build and maintain positive relationships, but it can support your soft nature. 

To practice self-compassion, which is also beneficial for femininity, treat yourself as you would loved ones. For example, when you’re struggling, give yourself the advice and treatment you would offer friends and family in a similar situation.

Embrace vulnerability

Vulnerability allows you to be your authentic self without holding back, which is crucial for stepping into your true femininity. This can take time, as many people aren’t comfortable with being vulnerable out of fear of rejection or judgment.

You can practice vulnerability by sharing your truths, such as goals, desires, or secrets, with people you trust. And remember that a willingness to be raw and vulnerable isn’t a weakness, it’s a strength that can make you powerful.

Practice the art of receiving

Do you tend to over-give in relationships, work, or other aspects of life? Giving is good and a common trait of femininity, but you also want to be open to receiving.

Allow yourself to receive a compliment or helping hand without pushing back or feeling guilty. You can also work towards recognizing when you need help and asking for it. 

Express sensuality

When you express sensuality, you engage with and enjoy sensations through your five senses. Expressing sensuality allows you to practice mindfulness, be aware of your body, and authentically enjoy life’s experiences.

Express sensuality even in small ways daily. You might do this by wearing fabrics that feel good on your skin, lighting a favorite candle, and fully tasting each bite of your food.

Honor your desires

Honoring your desires lets you authentically show up for yourself and in the world. 

What’s a desire you’ve been hiding or ignoring? Whether it’s trying a new hobby, ending or exploring a relationship, or working towards a new goal – recognize a desire you have and start taking small steps towards it.

If you aren’t sure what your deep desires are, practice meditation to give yourself time and space to connect more deeply with yourself.

Be open-minded

Thoughts, desires, and revelations might come up that are unfamiliar or uncomfortable while you’re on your journey of embracing femininity. This is normal, and open-mindedness can help you work through the discomfort. 

Allow yourself to discover your untamed, authentic femininity. Then, embrace your authentic self with an open mind and heart. This is the start of a powerful self-discovery and growth journey.

Have a support group

Research shows that those who have social support are more likely to experience personal growth. As you work towards stepping into your feminine power, a community of like-minded people can help you achieve your goals.

Wild, true femininity is often a mixture of masculine and feminine traits. Recognize and value the balance within you. Notice when you’re nurturing and soft and also strong and directed.

Encourage yourself to embrace the dance between both energies, allowing them to guide you through each moment and day. For example, if you notice yourself in your masculine energy, consider how your feminine energy can also shine through.
